Three Things You Should Never Do If You Want the Job

You want to make the best possible impression on your job interviewer. This is the critical first step in the hiring process at the organization you want to join.

Here are three things you should never do according to behavior based interviewing experts if you really want the job:
  1. Never talk too much. Wait for the question; be sure you understand it; then answer it succinctly. If the interviewer wants more, they will ask you to elaborate. The worst thing is for your nervousness to cause you to become talkative or to miss the mark…just to fill the void of an occasional silence.
  2. Never vilify your former job. There may be reasons it was not a fit for you but don’t blame your old boss or difficult colleagues or stingy pay.
  3. No not neglect to follow up with a note of thanks. Be sure to appreciate the time your interviewer spent with you. The note should be handwritten and personalized…never generic.
