Hiring the right people is like putting money in the bank for your company’s future. Just think of the return in terms of how much better things run when you have great people and, by the way, how many crises you can avoid with skilled, able managers in place.
And yet, too many executives avoid the time it takes to do it right. They may understand and accept the basics of behavior based interviewing training but do not invest the effort in truly following the process.
Good hiring requires the good sense to know that it will take the effort and commitment to execute all the small tasks involved successfully such as:
- Defining the job in behavioral competency terms.
- Identifying interview teams, roles and responsibilities.
- Using a proven behavioral interviewing methodology to effectively identify a candidate's competencies and past performance.
- Keeping all interviews legal.
- Rating candidates with confidence.
- Selling the job opportunity to desirable candidates.
