The
resume can tell us much about a person’s work experience and the bare facts of
their professional background. But the real test of how well an interviewee
will succeed at a new job is what lies beneath the facts…this is a person’s
“soft” side or their character and attitude.
Uncovering
this side of an interviewee is much more difficult than
interpreting the resume. However, a top quality behavior based interviewing program can teach you how to be a careful observer, ask probing questions that
reveal the nuances of a person’s behavior and even predict how they would act
on the job.
You
will learn to watch for some of these clues to their real personality:
- An optimism or positive energy
- Authenticity
- Self-confidence
- Respect for others
- Willingness to listen as well as to speak
- Honest assessment of strengths and weaknesses
The better you can become as an interviewer in judging the true person behind the face presented at an interview, the better long-term hiring decisions you will make.
