There
are few life experiences more anxiety-producing than interviewing. Especially
for those who have been job hunting for a while, it becomes more and more
critical to make a good impression.
- Show that you are a team player rather than focusing too much on your so-called leadership skills. Interviewers want to know that you can first work effectively with others…once aboard you can more appropriately demonstrate any leadership qualities.
- Choose the company rather than the job title. If you are hired into a company that values its workers, you will have opportunities to advance.
- Focus on what you can do for the company, not what the company can do for you. Interviewers are more interested in how you can solve their immediate job vacancy problems than how the company can help your career.
- Be sensitive to timing. Your first interview is not the time to quibble over salary. Get the offer first and then begin any negotiation you feel is important.
