If
you really want “A” players, you need to consider how you as an interviewer
present yourself, the company and the job. The best interview candidates want
to be impressed by you and by the overall opportunity. They want to know that
there are significant growth opportunities.
Here is the way behavior based interviewing training experts advise you put your
best (and the company’s) foot forward:
- You—prepare well for the interview. Ask questions that dig deep, not the usual ones. And be sure that the interviewee talks more than you do. “A” players like to reveal themselves and their qualifications.
- The Job—articulate the opportunities for growth, what resources will be available, and what degree of autonomy, influence and respect the position provides.
- The Company—describe the true organizational culture so the candidate understands the overall environment in which they must succeed. Companies that have a successful track record or are poised for fast growth are most appealing to “A” level candidates. They want to join successful ventures where they can learn and thrive in alignment with their own values and beliefs.
