How Marketing and Recruiting Fit Together

Competition can be fierce for top talent. When you are looking for the best hires, apply a few marketing best practices to attract strong candidates and then know how to persuade them to join your team.

  • Do the research so you know where to find the people you want. Then figure out just what they might want from you and your company.

  • Know what it is you bring to the table that other companies cannot. In other words, how can you differentiate your offer from all the other offers top candidates receive?

  • Be sure that your compensation is at least on a par with the competition. Pricing that is too low may knock you out of contention before you even begin the interviewing process.

  • Consider your reputation. Is your company brand consistent with the corporate culture that you have tried to foster?
Attracting strong candidates who fit is the first step. The second is implementing your behavior based interviewing training so you can predict how various job seekers would behave once aboard. The third is effectively selling your opportunity to your number one candidate. A bit of marketing, a dash of rigorous interviewing methodology, some sales and you will succeed in getting "A" players to join your team.
